April is National Poetry Month

Join us as we celebrate National Poetry Month with a Poetry Competition at our Annual Poetry Slam-A-Rama. Children ages 8 -19 are challenged to create their own poem(s) and compete with their peers for prizes. Sponsored by Mobile Public Library; The Friends of Mobile Public Library and Spoken Word Of Mobile Poetry Group. Please call for more information and register to participate.

Creativity Connects Community Art Show

Do you want to have your artwork displayed at Ben May Main Library?

If so, bring your creation representing the Summer Library Celebration’s 2023 theme, “All Together Now,” to the Ben May Library reference desk from June 1st to June 23rd. Whether you draw, paint, take photographs, or create 3D art we would love to display your work for our community. Please see our event calendar for in-house art creation days. All submitted art should be family-friendly and no larger than two feet wide. Art will be displayed in the front lobby from June 26 – July 31. Pickup art from August 1st to August 15th.

2023 Annual Slam-a-Rama

April is National Poetry Month

Join Mobile Public Library, The Friends of Mobile Public Library and Spoken Word of Mobile at the annual Poetry Slam-a-Rama competition for youth age 8 to 19. Youth will compete in three categories: 8-11, 12-14 and 15 -19. Poems presented must be their own creation. Judges will vote based on originality, clarity and presentation. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and honorable mention prizes will be presented in each age category.

West Regional Revelers Shoebox Float Contest – VOTE NOW

Entries have been summitted – NOW it’s time to vote! 

Voting is online using the links below or in person at the West Regional Children’s Department. Get your votes in before Noon on Saturday, February 11. Winners will be contacted Saturday afternoon.

Mardi Gras Mask Decoration Contest

Get in the Mardi Gras spirit!

Visit the Grand Bay Library to pick up your Mardi Gras Mask decoration kit. Submit all masks by February 14 to be entered in the decorating contest. Masks will be judged in 3 age groups; Pre-school ages 3-5, ages 6-12, and ages 13-17. The winner will be announced on February 16. If you would like to reclaim your mask to wear for Mardi Gras you may pick it up by February 18. Let the good times roll!

West Regional Revelers Shoebox Float Contest

Our 3rd annual West Regional Revelers Shoebox Float Contest!

To enter, pick up a shoebox and entry form from the Children’s Department at West Regional Library, starting Monday, January 23.

Age categories will be 5 and under; 6-8 years old; and 9-12 years old. Entries are due by 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, and will not be accepted after this time. Voting will be online or in person at the West Regional Children’s Department beginning Thursday, February 9. Winners will be called Saturday, February 11, by Noon. You will have until the end of the day Saturday, March 4, to pick up your floats.
