Spirit of Our Ancestors Film Festival at Main Library: “Descendant”

February 2 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm CST

The Clotilda Descendants Association and Mobile Public Library invite you to a special showing of the acclaimed Netflix documentary Descendant.

About Descendant: Documentary filmmaker Margaret Brown (“The Order of Myths”, “The Great Invisible”) returns to her hometown of Mobile, Alabama to document the search for and historic discovery of The Clotilda, the last known ship to arrive in the United States, illegally carrying enslaved Africans. After a century of secrecy and speculation, the 2019 discovery of the ship turns attention toward the descendant community of Africatown and presents a moving portrait of a community actively grappling with and fighting to preserve their heritage while examining what justice looks like today.

This event is free and open to all. No RSVP required. Murphy High School Choir will perform ahead of the film screening. A Q&A panel on the stage of Bernheim Hall will follow the film screening. Panelists include Joycelyn Davis, Emmett Lewis, Veda Robbins, Dr. Kern Jackson, and Christopher Williams.

The Q&A panel will also be available virtually on Zoom. Please click this link to join on Zoom at 7:30 p.m.: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81267960009 | Webinar ID: 812 6796 0009.
